In Summary

The PERAK Jamhuri Day pool tournament concludes today at Nairobi’s KICC, featuring East African players, cash prizes for men and women, and the Talanta Mtaani Season 7 festival.

Nairobi is gearing up for a thrilling finish today as the PERAK Jamhuri Day Tournament, organized by the Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, enters its final day at the KICC.

Although the event is hosted here in Nairobi, the tournament has drawn players from across the East African region, adding a strong international flavour to the competition. A large contingent of Kenyan players arrived fresh from a major tournament in Tanzania, where they impressed with second and fourth-place finishes. Their return has raised expectations among local fans eager to see them push for glory on home soil.

With the finals set for today, the men’s category winner will receive KSh 70,000, with rewards extended to the top 8. The women’s competition, featuring 20 players, will see the champion take home KSh 35,000, also with prizes for the top 8.

Organizers Encourage Kenyans to Attend

PERAK Chairperson, Michael Kiragu Muthama, who has overseen the preparations and operations this week, emphasized that today offers more than just sport. He has been encouraging Kenyans to come out not only to cheer the players but also to learn about the growing pool culture in East Africa.

“This tournament shows how far the game has come. Fans should come and witness the talent we have in the region,” he noted during our conversation.

Talanta Mtaani Festival Lights Up the Grounds

Running alongside the tournament is the vibrant Talanta Mtaani Season 7 festival, whose performers have transformed the KICC grounds into a lively cultural arena. Their showcases have drawn families, students, curious spectators, and content creators, offering a full entertainment package for anyone walking in.

Food stalls, art displays, pop-up vendors, and interactive experiences have kept the space active throughout the day. And on a lighter note, yes, I did end up holding a python at one of the experience stands, a reminder of just how eclectic and unexpectedly fun the event has become.

Final Day: A Unique Experience for Nairobians

With the finals taking place today, a large crowd is expected. Between the regional competition, the entertainment lineup, and the festival buzz, this has quickly become one of Nairobi’s most unique midweek events.

If you're in the city, KICC is the place to be today. Come watch the best of East African pool talent, support Kenyan players as they chase silverware, enjoy the Talanta Mtaani performances, and dive into a lively festival atmosphere that blends sport, culture, and community.
